So it’s actually the fanbase that keeps the Sonic franchise alive and SEGA knows this and why they are more lenient to fan projects. Sonic Mania was released digitally for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on August 15, 2017. Four days before release, Sega delayed the Windows version for another two weeks for further optimization, releasing it on August 29 as a download on Steam. But S3&K is also where the weaknesses that would sink the lesser Sonic games began to manifest. Would Tails peruse in-game SEGA arcades to play retro titles like Outrun and Virtua Fighter 2? Just like our favourite hard-hitting Yakuza protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu would?
